Yesterday evening I joined Mike Dilger and an Icon Films team to make a piece for The One Show on Nightjars. My challenge was to shoot an image of a Nightjar hunting moths. It was a very enjoyable evening and exciting too for the Nightjars put on quite a performance, to see how I got on you will have to watch the piece when broadcast later in the year. In the meantime here is an image shot a couple of years ago of an unpaired male that was particularly friendly.
I get the feeling its been a good breeding season for many species this year. That is certainly the case for my local Sand Martin colony where there are now young on the wing which frequently return to their holes to wait to be fed, as seen here.
I have just returned from another hugely successful week leading our annual Shetland Nature photography holiday. Here is a Kittiwake with nest material taken on our first day as we photographed diving Gannets from a boat off Noss. Dates for next spring will be published shortly.
